The WeChat Official Account for the DeepSeek Harness team has been registered, with Beijing DeepSeek as the entity. This hints at the imminent launch of its desktop Agent product, aiming to rival Claude Code. The team is responsible for building systems (Harness) that enable AI to execute tasks, including tool invocation and context management. Currently, DeepSeek is accelerating recruitment for related R&D and data talent, expanding its business focus from coding to office productivity

Yesterday, netizens discovered that the WeChat Official Account for the "DeepSeek Harness Team" had quietly completed registration, with the certified entity being Beijing DeepSeek Artificial Intelligence Basic Technology Research Co., Ltd.

Considering DeepSeek's activities surrounding Harness over the past few months, this almost certainly hints at the imminent launch of DeepSeek's desktop Agent product. In fact, Lei Tech has stated in multiple previous reports that DeepSeek needs its own Codex/Claude Code.

The DeepSeek Harness team actually emerged as early as May this year. At that time, DeepSeek successively recruited for Product Managers and R&D Engineers for Agent Harness:

Participate in the entire process of developing DeepSeek's desktop Agent product, defining DeepSeek's understanding of Harness.

DeepSeek researcher Chen Deli even summarized the goal as "Benchmarking Claude Code, creating DeepSeek Code Harness."

Here, Harness can be simply understood as the system outside the model that "makes AI actually do the work."

The model is responsible for understanding and reasoning, but for an Agent to read files, invoke tools, execute code, and manage context, it also needs to know when to continue, when to check results, and when to correct errors. These components connecting the model to real-world tasks largely fall under Harness.

This determines whether a smart model can ultimately drive a useful Agent.

DeepSeek's investment in this area is also accelerating. In June, Cui Tianyi, head of the Harness team, publicly stated on X multiple times that the team was severely short-staffed.

Currently, in addition to the Agent Harness team, DeepSeek's official website is also recruiting for Agent Infra, Code Agent Data Engineers, and General Agent Data Product Managers. The direction has expanded from coding to office productivity, daily life, and search.

The model itself is also paving the way for Agents. Starting with V3.1, DeepSeek has publicly emphasized tool invocation and multi-step Agent capabilities, with subsequent models further supporting continuous tool invocation during the thinking process.

Therefore, the registration of the Harness team's Official Account is more of a signal of a phase change.

As for whether DeepSeek will first launch a programming Agent similar to Claude Code or directly develop a more general desktop Agent, it remains unclear. But one thing is undeniable—after Claude, ChatGPT, and major domestic tech companies have all started moving from "chatting" to "doing work":

DeepSeek is also set to follow the same path.
