According to the Zhitong Finance APP, Cerebras Systems (CBRS.US) has launched a new high-speed computer equipped with the company's chip, stating that this device will provide a greater advantage compared to those from NVIDIA.
The company announced on Tuesday at an event in San Francisco that the machine, named CS-4, is currently being sample tested by a few customers and will be more widely available later in the third quarter. The speed of this computer will be several times faster than its predecessor, and Cerebras has previously claimed that the response speed of its previous generation product outperforms systems equipped with NVIDIA's dominant processors.
This product upgrade is a key move for the company to challenge NVIDIA in the AI data center hardware market. Cerebras, which went public earlier this year, is still only a small fraction of its competitors. However, it aims to double its revenue next year (tripling it).
Since its listing in May this year, the company's stock price has risen by 19%.
Cerebras has two core businesses: selling computers equipped with its chips and providing data center computing power services based on its technology. The common goal of these two business segments is to capitalize on the explosive spending in the artificial intelligence infrastructure sector.
At the event, CEO Andrew Feldman and other executives showcased demonstrations of the new hardware, stating that it provides AI-generated results several times faster than NVIDIA-based alternatives.
Cerebras is promoting "ultra-fast result generation" as its core differentiating advantage. The company claims that by storing all the values supporting AI models on its massive chip—eliminating the need to access memory chips via connection lines—the entire processing process becomes much faster.
The design of this new computer can also accommodate updated generation chips to be launched next year, equipped with an improved cooling system. This allows it to house three of Cerebras' existing processors and operate at higher speeds.
Feldman stated at the event that the company has learned from previous versions and introduced a modular design that can be easily upgraded or configured to accommodate a wider range of peripheral systems.
He mentioned that the new computer design will help Cerebras keep up with the surging market demand. On one hand, it does not require the currently scarce memory chips; on the other hand, it is built on more readily available manufacturing process technologies.
