Meta Platforms All-Staff Meeting: Integrating AI into the Metaverse and its Products, Apple AR Lacks "Magical Solutions"
Meta Platforms: Can AI help turn the tide?
Last year, Meta experienced the most turbulent period since its establishment, with massive layoffs and the failure to gain recognition for its All-in Metaverse strategy. At the all-staff meeting, Zuckerberg emphasized the development strategy of AI and expressed his views on Apple's AR.
On Thursday local time, Meta held an all-staff meeting at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California. At the meeting, Zuckerberg gave a speech explaining his plans for AI and the Metaverse, and executives including CTO Andrew Bosworth and Chief Product Officer Chris Cox also spoke.
Meta plans to integrate AI into the Metaverse and its products
Zuckerberg clarified the company's development strategy focused on AI, emphasizing the integration of AI with the Metaverse and its apps.
Zuckerberg said at the meeting:
In the past year, we have made some incredible breakthroughs in generative AI - qualitative breakthroughs that give us the opportunity to take this technology forward and apply it to every product we have. We will play an important and unique role in the industry, bringing these capabilities to billions of people in new ways that others cannot.
At this meeting, Zuckerberg also emphasized the integration of AI technology with the Metaverse and Instagram:
Meta will strive to develop AI models that surpass competitors in terms of user numbers and ultimately integrate them into its Metaverse plan. At the same time, Meta will create AI tools to help people create content and better express themselves and their ideas.
Executives who spoke at the all-staff meeting also showcased new AI features that will soon be launched on Instagram, including text prompts to modify photos posted by users and stickers for messaging services. In addition, Meta plans to launch chatbots similar to ChatGPT for Messenger and WhatsApp, supporting multiple languages.
Open source technology helps improve platform performance
Meta is betting heavily on open source technology, allowing developers to develop their own algorithms based on Meta's existing achievements, a strategy that has sparked controversy.
Zuckerberg defended Meta's strategy in his speech. He said that open source software can strengthen external supervision of this technology because it can be seen by millions of technical personnel, and further cooperation with external personnel can improve the performance of the Meta platform.
Zuckerberg also said that he hopes people can develop as many AI programs as possible, rather than relying entirely on two or three large technology companies.
Apple AR does not have a "magical solution"
In addition, Zuckerberg also expressed his views on Apple's AR competitors.
He believes that Apple's Vision Pro has not achieved any significant breakthroughs in the unexplored technology field of Meta:
It's worth mentioning that "Wood Sister", the founder of the Ark Fund, said that software providers will be the next beneficiaries of the AI frenzy, and she is optimistic about Meta's performance. Whether Meta can turn the tide with AI and make the dream of the "metaverse" a reality remains to be seen.
I'm really curious about what they will launch. From what I saw initially, they didn't propose any magical solutions for the technological principles and physics that our team has not yet explored and thought of. They just used higher resolution displays and other technologies to drive them.
