Amid trade conflicts, China urges automakers to halt EU expansion plans. According to reports, due to trade disputes with the EU over electric vehicles, the Chinese government has called on domestic automakers to suspend active searches for production bases and new contract signings in the EU while negotiations on tariffs for Chinese EVs are ongoing. State-owned automaker Dongfeng has canceled plans to produce cars in Italy, and Changan has also called off its European market launch event. ๐
It remains unclear how this directive will affect private automakers such as BYD, XPeng, and Nio. The EU stated that "significant gaps" remain in the negotiations, with eight rounds of talks conducted so far and price commitments under discussion. China has also warned automakers exporting to the EU against negotiating individual solutions with the EU, urging efforts to reach a framework agreement covering all automakers.
