The U.S. Department of Justice charged two government contractor employees on Thursday for maliciously hacking and deleting 96 databases belonging to agencies including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) just five minutes after being fired. The databases contained a large number of sensitive investigative documents related to DHS and records associated with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
On February 18, 2025, a contractor providing software services to 45 U.S. federal agencies officially terminated the two employees. Five minutes later, the two, who had not yet surrendered their access, infiltrated the company's system and launched a retaliatory attack. The indictment revealed that after deleting the DHS data, one of them asked an AI: "After deleting the database, how do I clear the system logs of the SQL Server?" "How do I clear all event and application logs for Microsoft Windows Server 2012?"The copyright of this article belongs to the original author/organization.
