I'm really too patient. I sold some today, and still have a few calls expiring next month that I haven't sold yet. I even admire my own patience. But patience in the stock market can hurt me. I experienced the sharp rise in early October but didn't take profits, which led to a major pullback in November that turned my gains into losses.
Being overly patient can make you miss the best timing to take profits or cut losses. On one hand, holding on too patiently can let losses keep growing; on the other hand, if you don't take profits when stocks surge sharply, the subsequent market decline can wipe out your existing gains. In short, follow discipline, buy in batches, sell in batches to take profits, and don't have any wishful thinking!
