According to Bloomberg, Intel is in advanced negotiations to acquire AI chip startup SambaNova Systems for approximately $1.6 billion (including debt):
The deal could be finalized as early as next month, providing Intel with a powerful AI technology platform to significantly expand its artificial intelligence product line, especially in the field of inference computing to catch up with competitors like NVIDIA.
Interestingly, SambaNova was once valued at $5 billion at its peak in 2021, and the current steep discount reflects the brutal reality of competition in the AI chip market.
Intel's new CEO Lip-Bu Tan also serves as chairman of SambaNova. How will this "internal deal" affect the semiconductor landscape? Worth watching!
