For those who are not familiar, the index announces its quarterly rebalancing every year. The first Friday of March, the first Friday of June, the first Friday of September, and the first Friday of December—these stocks are actually included in the index on the third Friday of these months. The index also rebalances when companies among the approximately 500 constituent stocks are acquired. Typically, S&P announces the inclusion of another company in the index after the close of trading on the day the acquired company ceases trading.
