The US just released its December core PCE price index. The market expectation was 2.9%, while the actual figure came in at 3%. This did not come down like last week's CPI.
Additionally, the US fourth-quarter GDP was announced at 1.4%, far below the market expectation of 3% and the previous quarter's 4.4%.
Donald Trump had already blamed the Democratic Party for the shutdown and Powell for not cutting interest rates before the data was released.
These two data points are mixed for interest rate cuts; it depends on how the Fed weighs them.
