Money is already tight; after paying rent and credit card bills, there's almost nothing left. They say they want to make money, but when it comes to actually selling things, quoting prices, or posting on social media, they hesitate—will this make me look desperate? Will acquaintances laugh at me?
For adults, the hardest barrier to cross isn't about ability; it's about saving face.
Many people are quietly poor. Their social media still shows a peaceful life; they say there's no rush, but inside, they're calculating every day. They want to change jobs but fear instability; they want a side hustle but worry no one will buy; they want to start selling but are afraid of rejection. So they continue collecting 'dry goods' (useful information), waiting for the perfect moment to be ready.
But when it comes to making money, the first requirement isn't how capable you are, but whether you're willing to admit: I need money right now, and I'm going to turn my abilities into income.
The start of an ordinary person's money-making journey is usually not pretty. It begins with small services, the first awkward quote, or posting content that gets no likes. It's not about proving you're exceptionally talented; it's about doing what you can with what you have at hand.
There's another thing many people can't get past—they can give free advice to friends, stay up late working on proposals, but feel embarrassed the moment money is involved.
The problem is, money won't come to you just because you're embarrassed.
Accepting being ordinary doesn't mean resigning to fate. Letting go of face isn't about groveling.
True dignity is knowing that life is harsh and starting to have the ability to reclaim it, inch by inch.
The greatest dignity for an adult isn't appearing not to need money, but daring to admit you need to make money and actually taking action to earn it.
