Last night, US stocks saw a violent surge in the semiconductor sector, with the storage 板块 collectively surging. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose over 8%, SanDisk rose about 26%, Micron Technology rose over 18%, SK Hynix rose over 17%, AMD rose more than 13%, and Intel rose more than 11%.
The Korean Kospi index surged over 16% intraday, with SK Hynix rising over 28% and Samsung Electronics rising over 24%.
As of 10:12, the SSE STAR Chip Index (000685) rose 8.72%; among weighted stocks, Shengke Communications-U rose 16.83%, Jiehuate rose 16.6%, VeriSilicon rose 15.16%, Yuanjie Technology rose 14.7%, and Zhongke Feice rose 12.54%.
The E Fund STAR Chip ETF (589130) has been favored by capital. As of the previous trading day, it received a net capital inflow of 47.3921 million yuan on that day. After market close on Thursday Eastern Time, Amazon reported earnings, stating that driven by strong AI demand, its cloud business grew robustly in the second quarter, up 37% year-over-year, exceeding Wall Street's expected 31% increase. This marks the fastest growth rate for this business since 2021. The company also raised its full-year capital expenditure guidance to $220 billion.
Additionally, Alphabet reported that Google Cloud growth reached 82%, while Microsoft Azure cloud services revenue grew by 43% in the fourth fiscal quarter (ending in June).
A research report from Everbright Securities pointed out that Google raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to $195-205 billion and expects significant growth in 2027 as well, reflecting sustained confidence among leading vendors in expanding AI computing power. Although the negative free cash flow in the short term has sparked market concerns about the return cycle, the high growth of cloud business, continuous expansion of orders on hand, and tight supply of computing power indicate that real demand is still accelerating. Upstream hardware segments such as servers, AI chips, and optical modules are expected to benefit first.
