Because the essence of tolerance is indifference; they don't want to bother with anyone and have no complaints about anyone. Since they don't care, they respect everyone. This is something the poor cannot understand.
The poor think that when the rich show respect, it's genuine respect for them. It's not. It's because the rich are indifferent and have no issues with the poor, so they simply don't care. The poor take this respect and tolerance seriously and fail to grasp the reality. In truth, the real 'rich mindset' is one of indifference, which comes across as coldness.
