U.S. stock indexes fell on Wednesday as investors locked in profits after a strong 2023 and awaited the Federal Reserve’s December meeting minutes for clues on its interest rate path. (.N)

At 13:40 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI) was down 0.39% at 37,566.73. The S&P 500 (.SPX) was down 0.48% at 4,719.84 and the Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC) was down 0.82% at 14,645.077.
