According to Zhitong Finance APP, Uber (UBER.US) has launched the Uber Safari service, offering adventure tourism services to Nairobi National Park in Kenya. This park is the only wildlife reserve located within a capital city in the world. Through the Uber Safari service, passengers can pre-book daytime or nighttime adventure activities on the app, participating in a three-hour guided tour to see lions, rhinos, buffaloes, and leopards.
The ride-hailing service company, which has been operating in Kenya for ten years, is targeting the country's $4.3 billion tourism revenue, with a strategy to attract domestic tourists as well as numerous business travelers seeking convenient safari experiences during their short stays in Nairobi.
Uber stated in a press release: "By opening the platform to local travel agencies and fleet partners, Uber's safari service creates new profit opportunities for those who already own vehicles and have experience as safari guides."
Reports indicate that tourism is one of the main sources of foreign exchange income for the country, contributing 10.4% to the gross domestic product and 5.5% to formal employment. Uber has stated that in 2023, its platform contributed 14.1 billion shillings (approximately $109 million) to the Kenyan economy, with one-fifth coming from the tourism sector
