ByteDance has launched at least 20 short story mini-programs within the Douyin app, including Lingyun Stories, Taoyao Stories, and Tianmang Stories, operated by Juyuan Engine. This is not ByteDance's first foray into a scaled matrix in the content field; it has previously built a multi-product system in the short drama and novel sectors. The introduction of this short story matrix is equivalent to adding a new subcategory in the "short, flat, and fast" content sector, and ByteDance's intensive launch of short story mini-programs at this time clearly aims to quickly seize the short story market by leveraging Douyin's traffic advantages. Before ByteDance, many internet platforms had already set their sights on this "cake" of short stories. For instance, QQ Reading under China Literature has categorized short stories as a separate category, while Alibaba's UC has launched a standalone "Story" channel alongside the "Short Drama" channel.
