The 2025 Tmall Double 11 will officially go on sale next Monday (20th) at 8 PM. This year will be the first Tmall Double 11 fully implemented with AI, as Taobao and Tmall utilize AI technology to reshape the underlying foundation of the e-commerce platform, achieving a more precise understanding and organization of a library of 2 billion products. With the integration of large language models (LLMs) into the core search and recommendation engines, the search engine can understand complex semantics through conversational queries. In the recommendation field, AI can suggest more surprising products.
This AI upgrade is based on Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen large model as the post-training foundation, resulting in significant improvements in several key metrics, including a double-digit increase in the relevance of response results during complex queries; in specific recommendation scenarios, the click-through rate also recorded double-digit growth.
Zhang Kaifu, President of Intelligent Search and Recommendation for Alibaba-W (09988.HK) China E-commerce Business Group, stated that "user-friendly AI" is the benchmark for Taobao's AI applications. The group hopes that AI can address consumer pain points and also enable merchants to achieve growth.
Taobao and Tmall are simultaneously launching 6 AI shopping guide applications for consumers, including "AI Universal Search," which can accurately understand complex semantic expressions and provide shopping strategies; "AI Help Me Choose," which guides precise product selection through conversation; "Pai Li Tao," which has been upgraded to multimodal AI search, providing consumers with price advantages for the same items and recommendations for similar products; the Taobao homepage search automatically generates "category lists" based on online reputation and can answer shopping questions in real-time; "AI Try-On" supports users in trying on their desired outfits with one click; each user will also receive a customized "AI List."
Taobao has also formed AI operation teams for merchants to help them reduce costs and increase efficiency. Data shows that AI design tools generate approximately 200 million images and 5 million videos monthly, effectively increasing product click-through rates by over 10%; AI data analysis has generated over 10 million reports, receiving positive feedback from 85% of merchants; AI customer service Xiaomimi 5.0 helps merchants reduce costs by 20 million RMB daily, with an incremental GMV of 19.12 million RMB
