According to data from Counterpoint Research, Apple's iPhone sales in China rose to first place in May, with global sales increasing by 15% year-on-year. This growth is mainly attributed to the recovery in the Chinese and American markets, while also achieving double-digit growth in Japan, India, and the Middle East. Despite facing pressure from domestic competitors, Apple maintained its competitiveness through price reduction measures, offering discounts of up to 2,530 yuan on the iPhone 16 on e-commerce platforms in China in May
Reuters, June 13 -
According to Counterpoint Research, Apple's (AAPL.O) iPhone sales in China rose to first place in May, with global sales increasing by 15% year-on-year during April and May, marking the tech giant's strongest performance in these two months since the COVID-19 pandemic. Preliminary data from Counterpoint Research indicates that the main reason for the global sales growth is Apple's recovery in its two largest markets, China and the United States. Counterpoint noted that Apple has benefited to some extent from tariff evaders, and also achieved double-digit growth in Japan, India, and the Middle East markets. Ivan Lam, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, stated, "The performance of the iPhone in the second quarter looks promising so far, but as always, the trends are determined by the U.S. and Chinese markets." According to calculations from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, which is directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the shipment of overseas brand smartphones, including Apple's iPhone, in China increased from 3.5 million units in the same period last year to 3.52 million units in April. Apple is facing increasingly fierce competition from domestic rivals in China and has implemented price cuts to maintain competitiveness.
In May, Chinese e-commerce platforms offered discounts of up to 2,530 yuan (351 USD) on Apple's latest iPhone 16 models
